Nina Leen (1911-1995)

Nina Leen Russian American photographer who performed contract work for Life magazine (1940-1972). She studied painting in Berlin, Germany. Nina was known for wildlife photography and successful wildlife photography books. She was devoted to work with Rolleiflex cameras. Leen also came to work in fashion photography for Life magazine and contributed to the cover photos. This association would make her well published and well-traveled. Nina achieved recognition for covering for Life the “Irascible” a group of young protestors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1950. An act that would lead to the term Abstract Expressionist.
