Dorothy Dehner (1901-1994)

Dorothy Dehner was born in Cleveland, Ohio (1901-1994) and earned a degree from Skidmore and began teaching at Barnard College in New York City. Dorothy belonged to the Abstract Expressionism movement. Dorothy was a student of Tomas’ and Weber Furlong whom she met at the Art Students League of New York, and subsequently she came to Bolton Landing New York with her husband Sculpture David Smith. She also exhibited at Skidmore College and held exhibitions at the Willard Gallery a contemporary art gallery which operated in New York City from 1940 until 1987.
