Eva Striker Zeisel (1906-2011)
Abstract ceramic artist and industrial designer known for her tableware Born in Budapest Hungary and studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. She became known professionally after her work designing chinaware for the Museum of Modern art in New York in 1946. As a young Jewish woman, she was designing in Russia for the Ukrainian porcelain and glass industry. After escaping execution, she fled to the United States in 1938. She rose to the top of her field as a pioneering woman designing and teaching ceramics and design in the US.
